sed, tr and gawk to the rescue on [2013-06-21 Fri 07:24]

I consistently work with a file that has characters that aren't well received by R's data.table's fread function. My previous process was to manually remove the characters in vim and then resave it. Witha 2gb file, that got to be slow and tiresome. It turns out that the answer was to use sed, tr and gawk. I will post the commands in a few
